Referring to this discussion I found that some PD-US texts (list) are still deleted. If they cannot be restored here due to the mentioned request, they likely can be imported to oldwikisource. Can you, please:

• undelete them temporarily
• export the listed pages using Spécial:Exporter (with full history and without templates) to a file
• redelete restored pages
• email me the exported file (I can import the pages to mul.ws then)

Of course, you can also import them page-by-page yourself using , if you are familiar with the tool (needs setting the option Assign edits to local users) as you are also admin in mul.ws. (only XML file import needs importer rights)

This operation would not be needed if the pages could be restored here. But as this has not been done yet, I assume that they cannot.

Well, the publishing house still owns the copyright until 2022 and 2023 (no matter if it is on fr.ws or mul.ws). I think the best solution is to wait and restore them in 3-4 years.

In US they do not. Copyright expired there 95 years after publication and all were published pre 1923. HathiTrust clearly declares them Public Domain in the United States.

Yes obviously, but in France (and all 70+pma countries) they do. the Wikimedia projects rule (for all projects) is that works should be free *both* in US and in the local country. Plus, as a French citizen I can't break the French law. Maybe Yann (d · c) would be willing to do it...

Multilingual Wikisource rule is PD in US only. Its scope is to host some works that are copyrighted in the source country. See mul:Wikisource:Copyright policy#Works that are in the public domain in the US only.

I know, the wording of this page is in a gray area.

Anyway, I can't export these texts (especially not in this specific case where we know that the publishing house lawyers are watching and willing to go trial and especially not is we can just wait 3 years).

OK. I asked WMF for opinion, so waiting now...

Any news about that?

Silence. No response. And, as my importer rights expired already, I am no longer interested in this case.
