Introduction au Sefer Berakhot
La Mishna est une compilation de la Torah orale, une paraphrase explicative et interprétative de la Bible hébraïque, couchée par écrit vers la fin du IIème siècle EC. Elle se compose de 6 ordres, dont Zeraïm (« Graines ») est le premier.
Berakhot (« Bénédictions ») est le premier traité de cet ordre, car les bénédictions pour la pluie, la rosée, etc. , ainsi que leur réalisation, sont considérées comme autant de prérequis à une agriculture fructeuse. Le traité, subdivisé en neuf chapitres, traite de l'ensemble des bénédictions et prières, dont les plus importantes sont la récitation de Shema Israël et la 'Amida (ou « Dix-Huit Bénédictions »)
