Acte entre l’amiral Coffin et Louis Boudreau, agent
des habitants des îles de la Madeleine, 1816[1]

« Made the first day of august in the year of Our Lord 1816 between Sir Isaac Coffin Borkeside of the one part and Louis Boudreau of the Magdelen Islands attorney for the whole inhabitans of the said Island of the other part, witnesseth, that he the said admiral Sir Isaac Coffin hath demised, granted, and to farm letten ; and by these presente doth grant, demise, and to farm let, unto the said Louis Boudreau attorney of etc., all lands possess’d by the inhabitans of said Islands actually in their possession, marshes, sand Hills, Beaches fish flakes stones, houses etc as now occupied by each individual without any reserve whatever of any kind or nature. To have and to hold the said lands, marshes, sand Hills, beaches fish flakes etc and to make use of, cultivate, build or improve in any way, most beneficial to the occupier, and to cut timber for full building of houses or vessels or any other purposes necessary for the inhabitants in any part of the waste lands of the Islands aforesaid with all and singular the premises with their appartenances unto the said Louis Boudreau att. etc his or their executor administrators, and assigns from the day of the date here of, for and during and unto the full end and term of nine hundred and ninety nine years from thence next ensuing ; yielding and paying therefor yearly, and every year, during the said term unto the said admiral, Sir,
