Ce manuscrit fut remis à lord William Bentinck avant son départ (de Madras), et M. Petrie (son successeur), après avoir, dans une note particulière, exposé les raisons qui avaient empêché qu’on ne s’en occupât plus tôt, ajoute :
L’abbé Dubois n’ayant pas les moyens de faire imprimer son ouvrage à ses frais, et l’intérêt public exigeant qu’un travail si utile ne demeurât pas inconnu, on jugea nécessaire d’aviser au parti le plus convenable à prendre pour en effectuer la publication.

The manuscript was communicated to lord William Bentinck previously to his lordship’s departure, and M.r Petrie has explained in a separate minute the reasons which prevented the subject from being earlier noticed.
The abbé Dubois (adds M.r Petrie) having no means of editing the work at his own charge, and it being obviousiy of public importance that so useful a compilation should not be withhold, it became necessary to decide on the most proper mode of effecting the publication of it.
