L’anecdote est symbolique, faite de traits épars dans Sewel. — Fox écrit au juge de paix Sawrey : « Thou wast the first beginner of ail the persecution in the North… But God had shortened thy days and limited them. » Et Sewel (75) ajoute : « It is remarkable that this Justice Sawrey who was the first persecutor in those parts, afterwards was drowned, and so died not a natural death. » Barbara Blaugdon, quakeresse, dit au juge Pepes « that the day of his death did draw nigh, wherein he must give an account of his actions, and that therefore he ought to take heed » (Sewel, 130).
